The Celo Ultragreen Move-a-Thon for Earth Day
While there is a lot of doom and gloom these days regarding our economy and climate change, Celo (the carbon-negative, mobile first EVM blockchain) and WheelCoin have joined forces to make it fun for anyone in the world to play a part in this Earth Day by downloading the WheelCoin app and earning $WHL for moving green.
The Celo Ultragreen Move-a-Thon powered by WheelCoin is a not-so-subtle initiative to nudge the global community to not just move green from April 18th to the 22nd, but to make green mobility (and other sustainable choices) part of your daily lifestyle.
Together, Celo and WheelCoin aim to encourage more people around the world to move green with the goal of contributing to 10,000 kg of avoided emissions from the global community who opt for greener modes of mobility (e.g. walking, biking, trains, buses and even ferries). If we hit our goal, Celo and WheelCoin have agreed to buy $WHL from our users as an eco-credit to offset any emissions created by the community from their mobility during this same time period.
You will be able to visit the website daily to see updates on our progress towards this goal as well as an update regarding which countries around the world are most active each day during the 4 day period.
Of course, like always, users are eligible for discounts on a growing number of values-aligned services by burning the $WHL they earn for free by moving green. And for Earth Day, and based on user demand, we are bringing in global discounts that are beneficial to users across entire continents or the globe as well.
Specifically, this week we are launching discounts with Next Earth, an earth-based metaverse that has a strong focus on sustainability. They are offering generous voucher codes of $50 (USD equivalent) on metaverse land. Meanwhile, TrainPal, a leading reseller of rail across Europe, is offering discounts to new and returning users on a range of rail products. Just in time to prepare for your summer green travel plans!
Aside from discounts on IRL (in real life) mobility services like rail, EV subscriptions and on-demand scooters, (and other values-aligned services like Next Earth), WheelCoin users can burn $WHL for digital collectibles which will soon be available on Celo as well. We have extended the initial OG Collection minting (was planned to end on Earth Day) due to request from our community who want more time to have a chance to mint the whole collection of 100.
This has been challenging for all of us (myself included) because collecting all 20 rare gold ones has proven elusive. As you can see I currently have 92% of the collection as I am still missing 8 gold collectibles. While time is running out to get lucky to mint one with free $WHL, as these go on-chain we can all buy and sell our duplicates to try to complete our 100 OG collection. And very soon we will announce the next collectibles program tied to cities we are working with!
